Dave Thomas  (Chairperson)

I have been a member of the Board of Trustees since December 1999.  My daughter is now at Kelston Girls Deaf Unit and has had the benefit of attending KDEC since her pre-school years.  Having served as the Board Chairman for the last few years I have enjoyed the challenge of helping to lead the Centre and have been lucky to have some great people on the Board of Trustee’s with whom to share this responsibility.

The Centre faces as always a challenging environment with the Government currently conducting a review of all aspects of Special Education which includes the future provision of education at our Centre.  This together with the need to secure the Centre’s relationships with its new partner schools in Auckland leads me to stand once again for the Board of Trustees.  This is likely to be my last term if elected as my hope is that over the next three years KDEC’s future path and funding will be in a secure and steady state for the benefit of all of our children.  After a decade of much change it will be nice to be able to hand on the baton to future parents with the Centre in good shape to go forward.
